Magnus Theatre - The Professional Theatre of Northwestern Ontario

One lusty weekend is what first drew Doris and George together. What keeps them coming back year after year to the same cozy inn, despite being married to someone else? For 25 years the two meet up on the same weekend and develop a relationship that goes far beyond that first night.

SAME TIME, NEXT YEAR is the highly successful romantic comedy by Canadian playwright and Hollywood screenwriter Bernard Slade, best known as the creator of The Flying Nun and The Partridge Family. The play, which ran for four years on Broadway and remains one of the world's most widely produced plays, is a fun and provocative look at two people over time. The show opens in 1951 and continues until 1975. This time of great social change in America serves as a backdrop to the story.

Twenty-five years of manners and morals are hilariously and touchingly portrayed by real life husband and wife team, Liz Gilroy and Scott Maudsley, with a script that expertly mixes delicious wit, compassion, humour and nostalgia. SAME TIME, NEXT YEAR is Scott's 6th appearance at Magnus. He previously performed in Fire (2001); Berlin Blues (2008); SkinFlick (2010); The Long Weekend (2012) and Storm Warning (2013). With the exception of Berlin Blues, all of these performances were directed by Mario Crudo. And in SkinFlick and The Long Weekend, Scott was lucky enough to star opposite his talented wife, Liz.

Liz has had a busy 2013/14 theatre season. She directed and choreographed a fifty-four person cast in A Christmas Carol in P.E.I., directed and choreographed Bingo Ladies at the Port Stanley Festival Theatre. She also received a Merritt nomination for her performance as Paulette in Legally Blonde at Neptune Theatre in Halifax.

Magnus is proud to present this award winning classic comedy - to entertain and! The preview performance takes place Thursday April 17th, with the Gala Opening on Friday April 18th. The play runs until May 3rd.
